Smile With Invisalign®

At Avason Family Dentistry, we are committed to your oral health as well as the aesthetics of your smile. For this reason, Dr. Frank Avason III offers innovative Invisalign® to improve cosmetic and functional orthodontic issues. At our Denver, NC, practice, we will explain all of your options, helping you select the most suitable approach for you. If you struggle with simple misalignment or a more serious overbite, underbite, or crossbite, Invisalign® may be appropriate. The treatment uses clear aligner trays to straighten teeth in the same timeframe needed for traditional braces. At the same time, the aligners are much subtler and more comfortable than metal brackets.

• Invisalign Before recommending Invisalign®, Dr. Avason will examine your teeth and discuss your goals for treatment. The aligners can address aesthetic concerns, as well as overall bite misalignment. However, if you suffer from particularly severe malocclusion, we will typically refer you to an orthodontist. We also refer teens to orthodontic specialists. Along with the alignment of your teeth, we will consider your overall oral health. To qualify for Invisalign®, you should not have any cavities or gum disease. However, once these conditions have been treated, you will very likely be eligible for Invisalign®. As an alternative, we also offer Six Month Smiles®. If you struggle with minor aesthetic issues, this second option may be more appropriate since it is faster and highly affordable. Six Month Smiles® can also be a good solution if it is likely that you will forget to wear your aligner trays.

Invisalign® uses a series of aligners in different shapes customized for your mouth. These aligners are worn in a specific sequence to gently move your teeth into their new positions, with most treatments taking 18 months or less to complete. Unlike traditional braces, there are no wires to tighten or rubber bands or springs involved, and there are no sharp edges to poke into lips and gums. As an alternative, we also offer Six Month Smiles®. If you struggle with minor aesthetic issues, this second option may be more appropriate since it is faster and highly affordable. Six Month Smiles® can also be a good solution if it is likely that you will forget to wear your aligner trays.

What to Expect When You Choose Invisalign®

During your first Invisalign® appointment, Dr. Avason will take impressions of your teeth so that our lab can create comfortable, accurate aligners. You will receive your series of BPA-free plastic trays during your second appointment. At this time, Dr. Avason will provide instructions on how to use and care for your aligners. Typically, you will wear each tray for two to three weeks. Like braces, they will place a gentle force on your teeth, which will shift them over time. The duration of your treatment will depend on the severity of your misalignment, how your teeth respond, and how well you follow Dr. Avason’s instructions. On average, Invisalign® treatment takes about 12 to 18 months. However, treatment time varies from patient to patient. For some, desired results could occur in six months, whereas other cases could take up to two years. Once your treatment is complete, Dr. Avason will provide you with a retainer to help your newly straightened teeth stay in place.
