SIX MONTH SMILES®

Six Month Smiles®

The Avason Family Dentistry offers innovative Six Month Smiles® at his Denver, NC, dental practice to remedy misaligned teeth. You may be concerned about the lengthy treatment time associated with traditional braces. Six Month Smiles® can reduce that time by 50% or more while still achieving outstanding results. This method employs clear brackets and a precisely calibrated force to straighten only your front teeth. In this way, Six Month Smiles® can quickly and effectively give you the smile of your dreams. At Avason Family Dentistry, we will explain all of your orthodontic options, helping you make an informed decision about your dental care.

Six Month Smiles® is usually recommended by your dentist to improve the patient’s overall appearance. Through orthodontic treatment, problems like crooked or crowded teeth are corrected. Arch wires attach to the brackets and act as tracks to guide the movement of the teeth. Arch wires can be made of metal, or clear or tooth-colored. Six Month Smiles® offer ceramic or “clear” braces, which are less visible. This program can also reduce the treatment time by 50% while still achieving outstanding results. As an alternative, we also offer Six Month Smiles® aligners. Clear aligners can treat a wide range of teeth-straightening conditions, including crowding and gapped teeth. If you struggle with minor aesthetic issues, this second option may be more appropriate for you.

Is Six Month Smiles® for You?

Six Month Smiles® is suitable for minor to moderate aesthetic issues. These can include:

  • Slightly crooked front teeth
  • Gaps in your smile
  • Rotated teeth
  • Crowded teeth

Six Month Smiles® can reduce that time by 50% or more while still achieving outstanding results. This method employs clear brackets and a precisely calibrated force to straighten only your front teeth. As an alternative, we also offer Six Month Smiles®. If you struggle with minor aesthetic issues, this second option may be more appropriate since it is faster and highly affordable. Six Month Smiles® can also be a good solution if it is likely that you will forget to wear your aligner trays. The treatment is not appropriate for more extensive issues, such as an overbite, underbite, or crossbite. If you suffer from any of these concerns, Invisalign® may be more appropriate. In addition, only adults qualify for Six Month Smiles® since their dental development is complete. If you have a more severe case of misalignment, or if you are looking for orthodontic treatment for your teen, we can refer you to an orthodontist.

How Does Six Month Smiles® Work?

In many ways, Six Month Smiles® works very much like traditional braces. Dr. Avason will start by taking impressions of your teeth. The next appointment he will attach clear brackets to your teeth. A tooth-colored wire will run between the brackets, exerting a gentle pressure. Although Six Month Smiles® uses a very low force, we will specifically calibrate the pressure needed to achieve your desired results.

Paying attention to your dental hygiene and health — especially your gums — may pay you back with more than a gleaming, healthy smile and manageable dental bills. It may keep your heart healthy too. However, experts emphasize that the keyword is may. Cardiologists and periodontists, the dentists who treat gum disease, have long debated the link between dental health and heart disease. But the issue still isn’t completely resolved, says Robert Bonow, MD, past president of the American Heart Association and chief of cardiology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. “It isn’t clear whether gum disease actually has a direct link to heart disease,” Bonow says. ”There are threads of evidence, but they’re not yet tied together. If it’s true that people with poor oral health have more heart attacks, it doesn’t mean the poor oral health leads to them. People with good oral hygiene may just be taking better care of themselves.” In other words, people who floss and brush their teeth may also exercise regularly and follow other heart-healthy habits.

During the course of your treatment, you will attend routine appointments every two-three weeks. During these visits, Dr. Avason will monitor your progress and tighten the wire. The gradually increasing force will cause your teeth to shift and straighten over time. It is highly recommended that you take good care of your teeth while your braces are on. In particular, you should use a water pick to clean your teeth and behind the wire. Once your teeth have reached their final positions, Dr. Avason will remove the braces. Six Month Smiles® usually takes just half a year. However, if you have gaps between your teeth, your treatment time could take longer. After treatment, you will need to wear a retainer to maintain your results.

What Are the Benefits of Six Month Smiles®?

Other types of braces will remain on your teeth for one year, 18 months, or even longer. Six Month Smiles® can achieve comparable aesthetic results in a fraction of the time. Since the treatment time is shorter, it typically costs less than other orthodontic methods. Additionally, these braces are subtler than standard braces, due to the clear brackets. We will help you select a wire color that best matches the shade of your teeth. You may find Six Month Smiles® to be more comfortable than traditional braces, since they will place less force on your dental arches. Six Month Smiles® can dramatically improve your oral health and appearance. Food and bacteria are more likely to become trapped between overlapping teeth, increasing your risk for decay and gum disease. Perhaps most noticeably, once your treatment is complete, you will have a straighter, more attractive smile that can transform your entire face. You may also enjoy a tremendous boost of confidence, enhancing nearly every aspect of your life.
