A dental implant is basically a biocompatible titanium screw and post topped with a crown or bridge. The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone where it replaces the natural tooth root. Root canal therapy is necessary for saving teeth that have decay that affects the nerve of the tooth or that have been damaged due to trauma. In most cases, root canals can be done in one appointment in our office. On a rare occasion, we may need to refer our patients to an Endodontist, someone who specializes in only root canals.

Dr. Avason is extensively trained in sedation dentistry. If you have any apprehension about dentistry, there is a solution available at our office. With several types of sedation available, we feel that most fears can be managed and overcome.

Nitrous Oxide is an option for those who may have minor apprehension about having dental work and just need minimal reassurance. There is no side or after effects from using Nitrous due to the fact that as soon as you stop breathing the gas, your senses return to normal.

Oral Sedation is for those who are a little more timid or want to have more extensive dental work done in one appointment. Dr. Avason prescribes a medication to be filled at your pharmacy and taken before your dental appointment. With this type of sedation, you will need someone to drive you to the office and drive you home. You may feel sleepy for a short period of time afterwards.

IV Sedation is the final option for those who may be having Oral Surgery in our office or are having an extreme amount of dental work done over the course of the day. Dr. Avason places an IV line in the patient’s arm and the patient is sedated for the dental work. A driver is also necessary after this type of sedation is done.

Veneers are a thin porcelain material that is permanently bonded to your teeth. While they may not be for every patient, veneers are an aesthetic alternative for some of the most common dental conditions involving front teeth such as diastemas (spaces between teeth), broken teeth, stained or discolored teeth that can’t be bleached, or crooked teeth.

Crowns are placed on teeth when there isn’t enough tooth structure to make a sound tooth with a filling. A Bridge is placed when the natural tooth is missing to prevent the other teeth around it from shifting. The teeth on either side of the missing tooth are crowned and attached to a fake tooth, or pontic. Crowns and bridges can be made of entirely of tooth colored material, metal or a combination of the two. With both of these restorations, the tooth is prepared by taking some of the outer tooth surface to make room for the crown or bridge surface. A temporary is placed on your prepared tooth while the lab creates your permanent crown. At the next appointment, your permanent crown is bonded to the prepared tooth and you have a stable surface for years to come.

Tooth colored fillings can be shaded to match your teeth perfectly and are the latest in cosmetic technology. This type of filling can be placed almost anywhere a traditional filling would be.

If your existing partials don’t blend in with your existing teeth or if your denture just doesn’t look natural, this may be your answer to greater comfort. Flexible partials use a flexible resin material that closely resembles gum tissue and is 1/3 as thick as traditional partials.

Custom dentures also provide the same effect. Custom set teeth can be tried in before making that final decision, making your teeth exactly how you remember them.
